On January 19, the Open Data Working Group released the Belmont Forum’s survey on Open Data. Webinars to present findings were held on 6 and 11 April and the Community Findings presentation is now availble from the documents page of this site.
The survey and resulting report is a significant work product from the planning phase of the eI&DM CRA, and findings are sure to help shape the future of this research. The survey targeted the global environmental research and data infrasructure community. It looks into users’ perceptions of the term "open data," expectations of infrastructure functionalities, barriers and enablers and the role of policies for the sharing of data. A wide range of good practice examples was pointed out by the respondents, which demonstrates a substantial uptake of data sharing, but also the need for further enhancements.
